40-60 Teens Invade BART Station to Rob and Terrorize People
About 40-60 teenagers invaded the Coliseum Station and robbed seven people at a Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) station. Rebecca Saltzman, president of the BART Board of Directors, stated:
This was obviously a terrible event and I’m sure very scary for the victims and the BART employees involved. We’re looking at it very closely to see how we can respond to make sure it doesn’t happen again. We’re taking this seriously. Things like this have happened elsewhere but not at BART.
The robbers attacked two people and took a purse, a duffel bag, and five phones from the BART riders. The robbers fled before police were able to respond, which took officers five minutes. The incident took place after 9 p.m. on a Saturday, which luckily was a time when not a lot of people were at the station. Apparently, robberies from small groups are common in the area but this was the first time that a large group committed a robbery.
