Assemblyman Rudy Salas Opposed the ‘Gas Tax’
California Assemblyman Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield) is being supported by Republic Constituents for opposing Senate Bill 1 (SB 1), aka the “Gas Tax.” Assemblyman Salas represents Kings County and parts of Kings County, which tend to be areas that are more conservative and Republican. Assemblyman Salas happened to be the only Democrat to oppose SB 1. In an op-ed piece on why he opposed the bill, Assemblyman Salas wrote:
The families I represent drive too far to jobs that pay too little. Imposing an additional gas and car tax on them would disproportionately affect some of the poorest and hardest working families in the state. This weighed heavily on my mind on April 6 as the California Legislature debated Senate Bill 1
Assemblyman Salas won praise on social media for going against his party’s pressure and instead looking out for his constituents. SB 1 is still awaiting Governor Brown’s decision to sign or veto the bill.
