Fresno County Farmer uses Floodwater to Replenish Aquifer
Some farmers are getting creative with the excess rain that has fallen this year. One of these farmers is Don Cameron, whose Terranova ranch has a barbera wine grape vineyard. Don is taking advantage of his access to floodwater releases from the Pine Flat Dam to replenish his aquifer. Don stated:
We put about 7,000 acre feet of water on the ground and about 70-percent of that made its way to the underground water supply.
Don’s idea to replenish his aquifer has caught the attention of UC Davis and the almond board as a great drought solution. It just goes to show what some outside the box thinking will do to help solve issues.
