Almost $1 Million in Stolen Bees recovered by Fresno County Deputies
Fresno County deputies have recovered almost $1 million worth of stolen bees from a suspect that was wanted for targeting multiple victims across different states. The stolen bees were discovered in an overgrown field and what ultimately helped to solve the heist were the mismatched beehives. This is definitely an unusual crime, but it was very lucrative for the thief. Fresno County Sheriff’s Sgt. Arley Terrance stated,
Just the monetary value of the bees and bee boxes, that’s $875,000. That’s the largest theft we’ve ever had.
Investigators claim that the mastermind behind the stolen beehives is Pavel Tvertinov, who is 51-year-old and went from county to county targeting contractors that he had met. Tvertinov even stamped the name Allstate Apiary onto the beehive boxes to try and fool people into believing that the bees belonged to him. Tvertinov is an experienced beekeeper and was renting out the bees he had stolen to various people across California in exchange for money. This is a good reminder for beekeepers to always mark their beehive boxes so that they can be identified if they are ever stolen.
