Central Valley Farmers are glad that President Trump does not plan to end NAFTA
Central Valley farmers have been worried about President Trump’s displeasure with the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). Central Valley farmers want to avoid a trade war and are hoping that NAFTA negotiations end well. President Trump has been vocal against NAFTA because he believes that it hurts American jobs. President Trump has instead decided to reach a compromise with the other members of NAFTA, rather than withdrawing from it completely. Ryan Jacobsen, who is the CEO and executive director of the Fresno County Farm Bureau, stated:
Exports is incredibly important to the health and diversity of California agriculture, its hands down we produce way more than we could ever consume.
According to George Radanovich of the California Fresh Fruit Association, California exports over 75 million pounds of fruit to Mexico and NAFTA insures that that there are no foreign tariffs placed on those exports.
Hopefully a deal can be reached that satisfies all three nations in the trade agreement.
