Fresno was named as one of the most Affordable Cities in the U.S. for Teachers
A report by Apartment List claims that Fresno is one of the most affordable cities in the United States for teachers to live in. Apartment List is a company that helps people find homes and they created their report by comparing teacher salaries and the cost of rent that they pay in 50 cities in the United States. According to the report, teachers in Fresno only spend 15 percent of their income on rent. This is great news for Fresno Unified, which needs to fill in 135 teaching positions. Cyndy Quintana, Fresno Unified district’s human relations administrator, states:
We tell [teachers] they can actually afford to buy a house here. That’s appealing to people. We talk about our national parks; that the traffic is minimal and about how family is important here.
According to a report by Zillow, the average annual salary for teachers in Fresno County is between $65,000 and $80,000. The median monthly rent in Fresno is only about $1,200, which is why Fresno was placed third in the report by Apartment List for the most affordable cities for teachers in the United States.
Which city was the most unaffordable? San Francisco. Teachers in San Francisco spend almost 70 percent of their income on rent.
The report by Apartment List shines a great spotlight on some cities that might have otherwise been over looked in terms of working in and living in.
